Merton (Town), WisconsinMerton is a town located in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 7,988. The Village of Merton is located partially within the village. Geography to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 73.2 km² (28.3 mi²). 66.7 km² (25.7 mi²) of it is land and 6.5 km² (2.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.88% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 7,988 people, 2,706 households, and 2,278 families residing in the town. The population density is 119.8/km² (310.3/mi²). There are 2,932 housing units at an average density of 44.0/km² (113.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.65% White, 0.15% Black or African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.50% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 0.33% from two or more races. 1.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,706 households out of which 43.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 77.9% are married couples living together, 4.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 15.8% are non-families. 13.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.95 and the average family size is 3.26. In the town the population is spread out with 30.6% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 27.0% from 45 to 64, and 8.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 105.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.7 males.
