Meowth Meowth (Nyarth (ニャース Nyāsu) in the original Japanese) is a fictional character in Pokmon video games. It loves playing with round objects and shiny items. According to the Pokdex, it often steals coins from people to play with them. Meowth is probably based on the Japanese Maneki Neko, as shown with its colouration, its love of coins, and the charm that resembles an Edo era koban on its head. When angered, this Pokmon will scratch the person it is angry with. Meowth live in big cities organized in groups that act like gangs, stealing food and money from people. Name Origin Meowth's name probably comes from "meow," the sound made by cats, possibly by combining it with "mouth." The Japanese name of this Pokmon is probably derived from onomatopoeia for the sound cats make, which is 'nyā'. Availability Meowth can only be caught on Routes 38-39 in Pokmon Silver and Crystal and on the routes around Saffron City and Route 11 in Pokmon Blue (and of course, in Pokmon Silver and Crystal on those routes after gaining access to Kanto by beating the Elite Four.) Other game information Meowth can be very useful. Since this Pokmon loves to steal coins, it learns the move "Pay Day" with ease. After this move is used, coins are scattered all over the ground which are collected by the winner of the battle. See also
