McPherson Township is a township located in Blue Earth County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 470.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 91.7 km² (35.4 mi²). 90.6 km² (35.0 mi²) of it is land and 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.13% water.

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 470 people, 167 households, and 126 families residing in the township. The population density is 5.2/km² (13.4/mi²). There are 170 housing units at an average density of 1.9/km² (4.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 98.94% White, 0.43% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.64% from two or more races. 0.43% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 167 households out of which 34.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.3% are married couples living together, 5.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.0% are non-families. 10.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.81 and the average family size is 3.07. In the township the population is spread out with 28.3% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 33.0% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 114.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 113.3 males. The median income for a household in the township is $45,804, and the median income for a family is $50,208. Males have a median income of $32,206 versus $20,917 for females. The per capita income for the township is $17,610. 5.1% of the population and 2.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.3% of those under the age of 18 and 4.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
