Marin City, California

Marin City, California is an unincorporated area in Marin County, the first county north of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge. The current population is approximately 1,600, although this number is expected to rise by about 750 in the first years of the 21st century due to new housing developments. Although Marin County is one of the most affluent counties in the United States, 28% of Marin City's population lives below the poverty line. Moreover, only about 3% of Marin County's total population is African American although the figure is around 60% in Marin City. Marin City started as a group of housing projects built during World War II for ship builders.
