Macomb Township, MichiganMacomb Township is a township located in Macomb County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 50,478. Communitites There are no incorporated municipalities within the township, though most of the area, especially the southern portion is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 94.0 km² (36.3 mi²). 93.9 km² (36.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.06% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 50,478 people, 16,946 households, and 14,065 families residing in the township. The population density is 537.3/km² (1,391.7/mi²). There are 17,922 housing units at an average density of 190.8/km² (494.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 96.12% White, 0.84% African American, 0.19% Native American, 1.41% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 1.12% from two or more races. 1.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 16,946 households out of which 45.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.7% are married couples living together, 6.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.0% are non-families. 13.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.97 and the average family size is 3.30. In the township the population is spread out with 30.2% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 35.1% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 7.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.3 males. The median income for a household in the township is $72,319, and the median income for a family is $78,840. Males have a median income of $59,206 versus $32,232 for females. The per capita income for the township is $25,907. 2.1% of the population and 1.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.2% of those under the age of 18 and 3.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
