Lutz Long
Lutz Long

) is an German Olympic athlete who was posthumously awarded the
Pierre de Coubertin medal
for his sportmanship at the
1936 Summer Olympics
. While he is often mentioned in articles about
Jesse Owens
, he has essentially been reduced to a footnote of history. Long was wounded when fighting in Sicily and died in an English military hospital. Long, Lutz
