Louise Marie Adelaide Eugnie D'orlansLouise Marie Adelaide Eugnie d'Orlans (August 23, 1777 - December 31, 1847) was the daughter of Louis Philip II, Duke of Orlans, and the sister of King Louis-Philippe of France. Born in Paris. She moved to the United States in 1801. She married George Casper von Schroeppel, a Prussian-born tea merchant who was a naturalized American citizen and lived in New York City; they had four children, including a daughter, Marie Eugenie von Schroeppel, who married John Hinman, a mayor of Utica, New York. In 1814, when her brother Louis-Philippe returned to France to later become King, she left her family and returned to live in his household. Now known as Madame Adelaide, she became his loyal advisor (or in 19th-century parlance, his "Egeria"). She died two months before the overthrow of Louis-Philippe's reign. See also:
