Starting from Chamaraja Wodeyar VI, the direct lineage of the founder of the Dynasty YADURAYA came to an end. Ubder the circumstance adoption to throne became inevtable and the traditional commanders of the Royal army known as Dalvoys hade a sway over the affairs of the country. During this period Hyder Ali, who joined as a foot soldier came to prominence and had a meteoric rise in the affairs of the Kingdom and rose to become a defacto Ruler and keeping the wodeyars as nominal Rulers. His son Tippu Sultan was more adventurous and after the death of Khasa Chamaraja Wodeyar VIII, even dispensed with this tradition and assumed full royal powers. However he was defeated by the British in the famous Mysore War IV and Wodeayrs were reinstated. With the merger of Mysore with the Republic of India on January 26, 1950, the reign of the Wodeyars came to an end.
