Lilydale Railway Line, MelbourneThe Lilydale railway line is a suburban railway in Melbourne, Australia. It branches from the Frankston, Pakenham, Sandringham, and Cranbourne lines at Richmond station. It has 21 stations in all three Metcard ticketing Zones. Infrastructure The Lilydale line is triplicated to Box Hill station, and duplicated to Mooroolbark station, while the section between Mooroolbark and Lilydale is single track. After Lilydale station is a closed railway line that extends to Healesville. The Lilydale line is also notorious for causing traffic bottlenecks. From Box Hill Station to Heatherdale Station, there are level crossings with Middleborough Rd, Blackburn Rd, Springvale Rd, Rooks Rd, Mitcham Rd and Heatherdale Rd, all just slightly south of Maroondah Hwy. This means that all major north/southbound thoroughfares over an eight kilometre distance become very slow during peak hour services, repeatedly being stopped for passing trains, and also for trains waiting at the nearby stations. Furthermore, the bottlenecks are unavoidable, because only two rail bridges exist over this distance, both on residential streets, including Laburnum St, which has a dangerous 90 corner under its bridge. The level crossing at Middleborough Rd is to be grade separated, with Laburnum station to be rebuilt as part of the project. List of stations Bold stations are terminuses, italic stations are staffed. Branches from the southeastern lines at Richmond. - Zone 1
