Liberalism In Serbia And Montenegro

This article gives an overview of liberalism in Serbia and Montenegro. It is limited to liberal parties with substantial support, mainly proved by having had a representation in parliament. The sign ⇒ means a reference to another party in that scheme. For inclusion in this scheme it isn't necessary so that parties labeled themselves as a liberal party.

Introduction

Liberal parties were active in former Serbia and later in Yugoslavia. After the restoration of democracy liberal factions became active again. Liberalism is divided in Serbia. The small centrist Civic Alliance of Serbia (Graanski Savez Srbije) has a clear liberal profile. The right of center Democratic Party (Demokratska Stranka) officially aligned itself with the European social democrats and the G17 Plus is somewhere between liberalism and conservatism. The liberal character of the Liberals of Serbia (Liberali Srbije, observer LI, member ELDR) is disputed due to their campaign for the last elections, in which it lost parliamentary representation. The Liberal Alliance of Montenegro (Liberalni Savez Crne Gore, member LI) is more or less a liberal party. The Yugoslav parties which were not active in Serbia or Montenegro are not included in the timeline.
