Lbeck-herrenwyk

Herrenwyk is a part of Lbeck. Herrenwyk is a part of Lbeck dominated by industrial facilities. Until the beginning of the nineties Herrenwyk was the location of a big metallurgical plant. The gas produced by this plant was used for making electricity in the Lbeck-Herrenwyk power station. In 1992 the power station was demolished, and on its site the static invertor plant of the HVDC "Baltic-Cable" was built, which came into service in 1994. A 380 kV power-line runs from the Herrenwyk static invertor plant to the Lbeck-Siems sub-station, where it ends. This power-line is the only 380 kV power-line in Germany, which has no direct connection to other power-lines in the 380 kV grid; although a 380 kV power-line from Lbeck to Schwerin has been planned since 1990, its realisation has not yet been possible due to ecological considerations. In the area of the static inverter plant there is also a 110 kV / 20 kV sub-station, fed by two 110 kV circuits coming from the Lbeck-Siems sub-station. These circuits are mounted on the lowest crossbar of the power-line to the sub-station, which is a combined 380 kV/110 kV power-line. There is no transformer for coupling the 380 kV- and the 110 kV-grid in the area of the Lbeck-Herrenwyk static invertor plant. Because of the missing 380 kV lines from the static invertor station to the central European 380 kV grid, "Baltic-Cable" cannot be run with its maximum power of 600 Megawatts, but instead only with 372 Megawatts.
