² Pokmon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald | Latias is a unique dragon/psychic-type Pokmon that can fly. Her brother is Latios. They both appeared in the movie Pokmon Heroes. Both of them can be found in the Pokmon Ruby and Sapphire games in Southern Island. Name Origin Latias' name might have been derived from the Latin word" 'latere' (as in latent), which means 'to lie hidden', 'to be invisible'. This is prudent as in the movie Latios and Latias disguised themselves as humans. The first person singular form of this word is lateo, which sounds exactly like this Red Dragon's name, thus making it translatable as 'I lay hidden'. Pokdex Information - According to the Pokmon Ruby Pokdex, "LATIAS is highly sensitive to the emotions of people. If it senses any hostility, this POKMON ruffles the feathers all over its body and cries shrilly to intimidate the foe."
- According to the Pokmon Sapphire Pokdex, "LATIAS is highly intelligent and capable of understanding human speech. It is covered with a glass-like down. The POKMON enfolds its body with its down and refracts light to alter its appearance."
Latias is the only female legendary, and can be found randomly in Pokemon Sapphire. Whenever you exit an area, she does too. In Pokmon Ruby, she is found on Southern island holding the Soul Dew. In Fire Red and Leaf Green, you need to trade her from R/S. Latias is one of the only Pokmon that is affected by the Soul Dew item. When Latias holds the Soul Dew, its Special Attack and Special Defense stats are multiplied by 1.5 while it is in battle. Latias holding the Soul Dew is widely considered to be an ber Pokmon.
