Land of the Free is the national anthem of Belize. The words were written by Samuel Alfred Haynes and the music by Selwyn Walford Young in 1963. It was officially adopted in 1981. Lyrics - O, Land of the Free by the Carib Sea,

"Land of the free" is often a reference to the United States of America, in part because the phrase appears in The Star-Spangled Banner. Critics of the U.S. sometimes use it in conscious irony, especially referring to the high incarceration rate of the U.S.
