Lady Margaret Hall is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Lady Margaret Hall accepts both undergraduate and graduate students. However undergraduates form the significant majority of the student population of the college, and some student facilities operate at a more restricted level outside undergraduate term dates.

History

Lady Margaret Hall, the first women's college in Oxford, was founded in 1878 by Elizabeth Wordsworth, a great-niece of the poet William Wordsworth. Founded in a large house in the north of the city of Oxford, it started with nine students, who had to be Anglicans. Somerville College was founded in the following year with twelve students, as a non-sectarian alternative. In 1979, along with most of the other women's colleges, it decided to admit men as well as women.
