Klawock, AlaskaKlawock is a city located in Prince of Wales-Outer Ketchikan Census Area, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 854. Geography Klawock is located at 55°33'18" North, 133°5'7" West (55.554961, -133.085139). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²). 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 34.83% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 854 people, 313 households, and 215 families residing in the city. The population density is 568.5/km² (1,465.4/mi²). There are 368 housing units at an average density of 245.0/km² (631.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 40.98% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 50.94% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 7.38% from two or more races. 1.41% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 313 households out of which 36.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.2% are married couples living together, 10.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% are non-families. 25.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.73 and the average family size is 3.25. In the city the population is spread out with 30.1% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 6.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 124.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 134.1 males. The median income for a household in the city is $35,000, and the median income for a family is $38,839. Males have a median income of $38,977 versus $23,036 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,621. 14.3% of the population and 13.6% of families are below the poverty line.
