Klaus JansonKlaus Janson is an American comic book artist, working primarily for Marvel Comics and DC Comics. While he is best-known as an inker, Janson has also worked as a penciller and writer. Janson got his start as an assistant to Dick Giordano, before striking out on his own at Marvel. He first came to prominence as the inker over Sal Buscema's pencils on The Defenders in the mid-1970s, and since then he has worked on most of the major titles at Marvel and DC. He is probably most famous for his collaboration with writer-artist Frank Miller on an early 1980s run on Daredevil; another celebrated collaboration with Miller, on DC's Batman story The Dark Knight Returns, followed in 1986. He has also pencilled and inked (notably over Gene Colan's pencils) for various Batman titles. Janson's initial style was close to the crisp yet slick inking of Giordano, without being in any way a clone. Over the years, though, he has developed a much looser, moodier and highly distinctive inking style. Janson has taught for some years at the New York School of Visual Arts, and has written manuals on pencilling and inking (both published by DC).
