KitanaKitana is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. About Kitana Princess Kitana is 10 000 years old, although you wouldn't say so. She looks like a young, elegant female in tight blue garment. Through the storyline of the games, she has risen to great importance, first as stepdaughter of Shao Kahn, tearing herself away from his grasp and freeing Edenia, and then leading an army into Outworld herself. Kitana combines features of discipline, intelligence, loving and perseverance. There was a subtle love interest between her and Earthrealm champion Liu Kang, until he was murdered by the Deadly Alliance. During the early production runs of Mortal Kombat 2, Kitana became notorious as an unbeatable character, as her telekinetic "fan lift" move could be done in such a way as to completely immobilize the opponent in the corner of the screen, allowing the player using Kitana to defeat the opponent with a series of uncontested punches. Changes were made in later versions of the game to eliminate this, as it tended to unbalance the game. Storyline Kitana's first appearance, in the second Mortal Kombat tournament, was mysterious. It was hard to guess her true feelings or alignment, which were revealed to the Earthrealm warriors during the tournament. She was not the daughter of Shao Kahn, but in fact his stepdaughter, adopted by him when she was a child and Kahn seized the realm of Edenia through war and Mortal Kombat. To strengthen Kahn's claims to the throne of that realm, he killed its king, Jerrod, and married his wife, Sindel – Kitana's mother. Suspecting she would someday learn the truth, however, Kahn instructed Shang Tsung to create a twin for Kitana, Mileena, which was actually a grotesque and evil clone. The Earthrealm warriors escaped from Outworld, but Kitana was imprisoned and sentenced to death for killing Mileena. However, during Kahn's invasion of Earthrealm, she managed to escape and rejoin her friends from Earth. Her only purpose was to convert the resurrected Sindel and remove the evil taint in her soul. In this process, she also turned her longtime friend Jade, who had been sent after her to capture her, for the cause of good. While she fended off a vicious attack of Reptile for her, Kitana pushed through to her mother and took her from Kahn's grasp, slaying the resurrected Mileena. Shao Kahn's reign over Earthrealm was short-lived, as he and his elite forces were ultimately defeated. In the wake of these events, Kitana and her mother freed Edenia as well. The realm had barely recovered from its violent merger with Outworld, however, as a new threat presented itself in the form of Shinnok. He and his grand vizier Quan Chi invaded the realm from the forbidden Netherealm, and imprisoned its legitimate rulers. Kitana, not a novice at escaping from prisons, broke loose once more to deal with an undead Mileena, now in service of Shinnok. However, soon the forces of darkness were defeated by Raiden and his comrades, and Edenia was free once more. Realising the vulnerable position of her realm, however, Kitana made haste to form an alliance with the Shokan, a powerful and ancient race that had fallen in disgrace with the weakened emperor. Their armies, lead by prince Goro, and Kitana's, marched against Outworld's armies a few years later, with much success at first. However, in the decisive moments, Goro was mortally wounded, ending the battle into a draw. The armies of Outworld were regrouping; as soon as word reached Kitana that Shao Kahn had been slain, she knew that a threat just as dangerous had arisen: the Deadly Alliance. In these vicious and unforgiving combats against the Deadly Alliance, where she found herself fighting at the side of her Earthrealm comrades once more, she was then trapped by the Dragon King during the next Mortal Kombat and later saved by her mother Sindel and Jade. Movie appearance Kitana appeared in as an unwanted companion of Shang Tsung and his warriors, eventually imparting the essential knowledge to Liu Kang he needed to defeat his greatest adversaries. In the second movie, she faced and converted Sindel in the final battles.
