Kingpin (Comics)

The Kingpin in the comics

The Kingpin (Wilson Fisk) is a supervillain in Marvel Comics' universe who is an enemy of Spider-Man, Daredevil and the Punisher. He was created by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr., and first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #50. His name would first be revealed in Daredevil #170. Wilson Fisk is a criminal mastermind who is involved in extensive illegal activities such as drug running, smuggling, murder, and so forth. Despite this, he has no criminal record and an army of lawyers to keep it that way, and is a criminal financial strategist without parallel. Fisk has no superhuman powers, but the majority of his 400-plus pound bulk is solid muscle. He is a superb fighter who has held his own against Spider-Man, but nowadays Daredevil occupies most of his attention. He has been aware of Daredevil's secret identity for years, thanks to Karen Page's indiscretion. He has employed any number of costumed criminals and assassins, notably Bullseye and Typhoid Mary. A 2003 MAX Kingpin series told an out-of-continuity version of the Kingpin's origins and rise to power.

Other Media Depictions

The character has appeared in each animated series adaptation of Spider-Man. He was voiced by Roscoe Lee Browne in the second series. In the live action adaptations, John Rhys-Davies played Fisk in the TV movie, Trial of the Incredible Hulk. In the feature film, Daredevil, Michael Clarke Duncan played the character. Although he was African American and in the comics the Kingpin is white, the producers decided he was the only capable actor available who physically resembled the supervillain in general appearance and stature.
