Emperor Gogukcheon was the ruler of the Korean Goguryeo state from 179 AD to 196. He was the son of Emperor Sindae (신대왕, 新大王). Emperor Gogukcheon oversaw the official change of Goguryeo royal succession from fraternal succession to father-son succession by primogeniture (Yang, 1999, p. 15). However, he was succeeded by his brother Sansang (산상왕 山上王).
