Kim Kihoon

Kim Kihoon is the first gold medalist in Winter Olympics for Korea. Kim became well known when he participated in short-track demonstration event in 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, winning a gold medal in 1500m. He is so far the only person to have swept all the gold medals available in short-track speed skating in a winter olympic games. He did this in Albertville, France, in 1992, winning 1000m final in world record time of 1 minute 30.76 seconds, and was a part of team that won 5000m relay in world record time of 7 minute 14.02 seconds. He became the first short-tracker to defend his olympic title, winning 1000m in 1994 with the time of 1 minute 34.57 seconds, at the ripe age of 27. He suffered setback in defending 5000m title, when his skate blade broke when he fell during a qualifying race. In 2002, Kim Ki-hoon was appointed the coach of Korean national short-track team.
