Kilburn Tube Station
Kilburn tube station
is a
London Underground
station at
Kilburn
in north-west
London
. It is on the
Jubilee Line
, situated between
Willesden Green
and
West Hampstead
tube stations. It is in
Travelcard Zone 2
. The station is situated on a
viaduct
crossing the main
A5
trunk road
at the north end of a stretch known as Kilburn High Road. It is approximately one mile south of the
Cricklewood
area. It opened as
Kilburn and Brondesbury
on
24 November
1879
, as part of the
Metropolitan Line
. It then became part of the Stanmore branch of the
Bakerloo Line
in
1939
, before gaining its current name on
September 25
,
1950
. It was transferred to the Jubilee Line on its opening, in
1979
. Apparently some locals would like the station renamed
Mapesbury
, referring to a posh "conservation area" of suburban houses just to the north west of the station.
