KhorsabadKhorsabad (Khursabad), village in Iraq, 15 km northeast of Mosul, with well-preserved ruins of the large, rectangular Dur-Sharrukin. Khorsabad was the seat of the Assyrian capital in the time of Sargon II. The site was excavated in 1842-44 as well as in 1852-55, and artifacts from these excavations are presently stored in the Louvre. See also: Dur-Sharrukin
