Kentucky ColonelA Kentucky Colonel is a person of distinction associated with the State of Kentucky. The honorary title is appointed by the Governor of Kentucky. It carries no military association, confers no duties, and carries with it no pay or other material compensation. Because Colonelships are handed out rather freely there is an old saying that in Kentucky there is "a Colonel in every kernel." The most famous recipient was Colonel Harland Sanders, of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame. Another is Wilson Edgar Terry, the last Kentucky veteran of the Spanish-American War. External links
