Kentfield is a census-designated place located in Marin County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 6,351.

Geography

  is located at 37°57'5" North, 122°32'50" West (37.951491, -122.547148). 
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.8 km² (3.0 mi²). 7.8 km² (3.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.33% is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 6,351 people, 2,506 households, and 1,806 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 817.4/km² (2,119.5/mi²). There are 2,565 housing units at an average density of 330.1/km² (856.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 94.54% White, 0.35% Black or African American, 0.17% Native American, 2.14% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 2.24% from two or more races. 2.22% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,506 households out of which 34.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.3% are married couples living together, 7.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% are non-families. 21.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 2.94. In the CDP the population is spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 3.4% from 18 to 24, 22.0% from 25 to 44, 32.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.9 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $117,457, and the median income for a family is $154,673. Males have a median income of $0 versus $59,286 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $79,459. 3.7% of the population and 2.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.7% of those under the age of 18 and 1.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Educational Institutions

Adeline E. Kent Middle School

A California Distinguished School that hosts grades 5-8. As of 2003 it enrolled 509 students. The school is racially homogenous, with over 90 percent white. The next largest ethnicity is Asian, at 3 percent. The school consists of 38 classrooms, as well as a multipurpose room, a gym, and a library. As of 2003, there were 32 teachers. Kent has an Academic Performance Index of about 890 out of 1000, putting it within the top ten percent in the state of California.
