Kenneth Hayne

Justice Kenneth Madison Hayne (1945- ) QC AC is a Judge of the High Court of Australia; the highest court in the Australian court hierarchy.

Education

Hayne attended Scotch College, and received BA and LLB(Hons) from Melbourne University, and BCL from Exeter College, Oxford University. He was a Rhodes Scholar.

Judicial Activity

  • He was appointed as a judges of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1992 and was later elevated to the Victorian Court of appeal in 1995.
  • He was appointed as a judge of the High Court in September 1997, a position he still holds.
Under the Australian Constitution he must retire from the High Court by 2015 when he will be 70.

Honours

He received Australia's highest civil honour when he was made a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) in 2002. Hayne, Kenneth Hayne, Kenneth
