kenneth hayne

Justice Kenneth Madison Hayne (1945- ) QC AC is a Judge of the High Court of Australia; the highest court in the Australian court hierarchy.

Education

Hayne attended Scotch College, and received BA and LLB(Hons) from Melbourne University, and BCL from Exeter College, Oxford University. He was a Rhodes Scholar.

He was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1971.

He was appointed as a judges of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1992 and was later elevated to the Victorian Court of appeal in 1995.

He was appointed as a judge of the High Court in September 1997, a position he still holds.

Under the Australian Constitution he must retire from the High Court by 2015 when he will be 70.
