Kane County, Illinois Kane County is a county located in the state of Illinois. As of 2000, the population is 404,119. Its county seat is Geneva, Illinois6. This county is part of Chicagoland. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,357 km² (524 mi²). 1,348 km² (520 mi²) of it is land and 9 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.69% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 404,119 people, 133,901 households, and 101,496 families residing in the county. The population density is 300/km² (776/mi²). There are 138,998 housing units at an average density of 103/km² (267/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 79.27% White, 5.76% Black or African American, 0.31% Native American, 1.81% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 10.61% from other races, and 2.21% from two or more races. 23.74% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 133,901 households out of which 41.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.20% are married couples living together, 10.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.20% are non-families. 19.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.97 and the average family size is 3.43. In the county the population is spread out with 30.30% under the age of 18, 9.10% from 18 to 24, 31.90% from 25 to 44, 20.40% from 45 to 64, and 8.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 101.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.80 males. The median income for a household in the county is $59,351, and the median income for a family is $66,558. Males have a median income of $45,787 versus $30,013 for females. The per capita income for the county is $24,315. 6.70% of the population and 4.90% of families are below the poverty line.
