Kaduna

Kaduna is the state capital of Kaduna state. This north central Nigerian city located on the Kaduna River is a trade center and a major transportation hub for the surrounding agricultural areas with its rail and road junction. Kaduna is also an industrial center of northern Nigeria producing products like textiles, machinery, steel, aluminum and petroleum products and bearings.

History

Kaduna was founded by the British in 1913. Later became the capital of Nigerias former Northern Region in 1917 and remain so until 1967. Kaduna is still today the most important political center in Northern Nigeria. The city is home to the Nigerian Defense Academy (1964), Kaduna Polytechnic (1968), and the Nigerian Institute for Trypanosomiasis Research (1951). The population of Kaduna is (1995 estimate) 333,600.
