Kmd

KMD was a hip-hop group in the early 90s perhaps best known for their music video "Peachfuzz", off of their first album "Mr. Hood", though they also did guest vocals on the white rap group 3rd Bass's "Gasface". Their political outlook was similar to the group Brand Nubian, who guest-starred on their album; however, the style was more comical and included a great deal of clips from old children's recordings. The group later put out a controversial album titled "Black Bastards" in 1994 which had trouble getting released because of the controversial album cover, picturing a picaninny caricature getting hanged in a game of Hangman (with the two letter "A"s the only letters not filled in). After the unexpected death of DJ Subroc during the production of that album (their second), his brother Zev Love X vanished from the music scene. Zev reappeared as MF DOOM (the MF standing for 'Metal Face') wearing a metal mask at all performances. His unusual style has earned him a lot of accolades among serious underground hiphop aficionados. KMD contained three members:
  • Zev Love X (later called MF Doom)
  • DJ Subroc (Zev's younger brother, died unexpectedly young)
  • Onyx, the Birthstone Kid
