K Street (Television)

K Street is a 2003 HBO television series inspired by the Washington, DC street of the same name, K Street, due to the streets reputation as being the center of lobbying interests in Washington. The plot revolved around lobbyists, giving views an inside view of the world of political consultants. Each episode, which were largely improvised, were usually focused around the major political news of the week, which required that the show be shot within 10 days of it's air date in order to keep the episode fresh with current events. Though fictional, it featured cameos from numerous real-life politicians political figures, such as husband and wife James Carville and Mary Matalin, playing themselves. Local appearances by the show's producer, actor George Clooney (producer Steven Soderbergh was also involved in the project), caused considerable stir with frequent mentions in the light-news "Style" section of The Washington Post. Though show was quite popular in the Washington, D.C. area, and received a fair amount of critical acclaim, but failed to find a broader audience. The show was canceled after only 10 episodes on November 24, 2003, though it can still be seen in re-runs on the HBO networks as well is available to persons who have In-Demand capabilities from their cable system.
