The rivers Tisza and Krs flow through the county. The capital of Jsz-Nagykun-Szolnok county is Szolnok. Its area is 5582 km². Before approximately 1990, the name of the county was Szolnok, just like its capital city. Jsz-Nagykun-Szolnok (former county) Jsz-Nagykun-Szolnok is also the name of a historic administrative county (comitatus) of the Kingdom of Hungary. Its territory, which is presently in central Hungary, was slightly smaller than that of present Jsz-Nagykun-Szolnok county. The capital of the county was Szolnok. Geography Jsz-Nagykun-Szolnok county shared borders with the Hungarian counties Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun, Heves, Hajd, Bks, and Csongrd. The rivers Tisza and Krs flow through the county. Its area was 5373 km² around 1910. History Jsz-Nagykun-Szolnok county was formed in the 19th century from the territories of Szolnok, Jszsg (Jazygia) and Nagykunsg (great Cumania). After World War II, the territory of the county was modified: the area on the left bank of the Tisza around Tiszafred was taken from Heves county, and the area around Dvavnya went to Bks county.
