Jonathan Sayeed

Jonathan Sayeed (born 20 March 1948) is a politician in the United Kingdom. He has been Conservative Party member of Parliament for Mid Bedfordshire since winning the seat in the 1997 general election. Previously he had been MP for Bristol East from 1983 (defeating Tony Benn) until 1992, when he lost the seat to Jean Corston. He was suspended from the House of Commons for two weeks in February 2005 after the Standards and Privileges Committee found that he had been paid for conducting tours around the Palace of Westminster. After winning a de-selection battle in his local Conservative Party, he, on March 14, announced he would not be contesting the May 2005 general election, on grounds of ill health.
