Johnny Bower

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan native Johnny Bower is a Hall of Fame goalie of the NHL. Born in 1925, Bower was an undrafted goalie who played in the AHL for several years in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He was finally picked up by the New York Rangers of the NHL for the 1953-54 season. He was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks the next year before landing with his final NHL team, the Toronto Maple Leafs the year after that. He would play 12 seasons with the Leafs. The height of his career came during the Maple Leafs' three consecutive Stanley Cup victories in the early 1960s. His career would be hampered by poor eyesight, but despite that he remained a top-tier goaltender. He was known for his hard-nosed, scruffy playing style and would win another Stanley Cup in 1967 by tandoming with other Hall of Famer Terry Sawchuk. His last season was 1968-69. He is the oldest goaltender to ever play in the NHL, retiring at age 43. His awards include Hap Holmes Memorial Award (3 times) and the Vezina Trophy (2 times) for the NHL's best goalie. His career stats are: 552 games played, 250 wins, 195 losses, 90 ties, 37 shutouts, and a 2.51 GAA. Bower, Johnny Bower, Johnny Bower, Johnny
