John Watkins

. He was originally elected to the Assembly in

when he won the previously safe
conservative
seat of
Gladesville
, before switching to the new seat of Ryde in
1999
when electral boundaries were redrawn. He is also a member of the
Labor
Government
in that
state
, holding the
cabinet
position of
Transport
Minister
as of
January 2005
, who is responsible for New South Wales'
public transport
services. Prior ministerial posts for Watkins have included Minister of
Police

), Minister of
Education

) and Minister of
Fair Trading
and
Sports

2001
). Prior to becoming a
politician
he was an
school
teacher
at the prestigious St. Joseph's College in
