john thorrington

John Thorrington (born July 10, 1979 in Johannesburg, South Africa) is an American soccer midfielder, who currently plays for the Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer. At the age of 17, Thorrington became the youngest player to sign a contract with an English club when he signed with Manchester United in 1997. John spent three years with the Man U reserves, unable to break into the first team. He then transferred to Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen, but once again wasn't able to get out of the reserves. In 2001, Thorrington signed with Huddersfield Town, then in Football League One, and played for the club for three years. He transferred to Grimsby Town in March of 2004, but only played three games for the club. Unable to find a high-level team in Europe, Thorrington desided to come back to the United States, signing with the Chicago Fire in early 2005. As of the end of 2004, Thorrington has earned one cap for the US national team, coming against Ecuador on June 7, 2001.
