John Stevens (New Jersey)

John Stevens (about 1716 - 10 May 1792) was delegate to the Continental Congress from New Jersey in 1783. He was born (either in 1715 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey or on 21 October 1716 in New York City when his mother was visiting there), the son of John Stevens and his wife Ann Campbell. He married Elizabeth Alexander, daughter of James Alexander, Surveyor general of New Jersey and New York and counsel for Peter Zenger, in 1748. They had two children: He became secretary to Governor Livingston of New York. He died at Hoboken, New Jersey and was interred at the Frame Meetinghouse Cemetery in Lambertville, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey Stevens, John Stevens, John Stevens, John
