politician. Boland first ran for the Dil in
1969
, however, he was unsuccessful. He was eventually elected to
Dil ireann
on his third attempt in
1977
as a
Fine Gael
TD
. He retained his seat until his retirement from politics at the
1989 General Election
. He served in the
Cabinets
of
Garret FitzGerald
between
1981
and
1987
. Boland died on
August 15
,
2001
