Jizzakh

Jizzakh (also spelt Jizzax, Djizak and Джизак) is a city in central Uzbekistan, northwest of Samarkand. It has a population of approximately 130,000 and is the capital of Jizzakh Viloyati, one of the twelve provinces of Uzbekistan. The city has two universities, with a total of approximately 7,000 students, and is home to a football team, Sogdiana Jizzakh, which plays in the Uzbek Oliy Liga. Jizzakh was the home town of Sharaf Rashidov, first secretary of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan from 1959 to 1982.
