Jerry B. Killian

Lieutenant Colonel Jerry B. Killian was the commanding officer of future president George W. Bush during the latter's controversial stint in the Texas Air National Guard in the early 1970s. CBS publicized several memos, apparently typewritten by Killian, detailing Bush's refusal to obey a direct order, and subsequent relief from flight status (see Rathergate). His former secretary Marian Carr Knox denies typing the memos - which were proven to be forged, when close examination showed they used proportional fonts not available in 1973; however, she says the content of the memos reflected Killian's attitude towards the future president.
"I know that I didn't type them. However, the information in those is correct," Knox told CBS anchor Dan Rather. http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/15/guard.memos.congress/
Unfortunately, Killian - the only person able to substantiate the content of the memos - died in 1984.
