Jehuda Reinharz

Jehuda Reinharz (born 1944) is the president of Brandeis University, where he earned his doctorate in modern Jewish history in 1972. His wife, Shulamit Reinharz, directs the Women's Studies Research Center housed in the Epstein Center at Brandeis. Reinharz, who was born in Haifa, Israel, holds degrees from Columbia University (B.A.), the Jewish Theological Seminary (B.R.E.), Harvard University (Masters), and Brandeis University (Ph.D.). He was the first professor of Judaic Studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He and his wife Shulamit are the parents of Naomi and Yael Reinharz. Naomi attended Brown University, about an hour away from Brandeis. He was announced as the university's seventh president in March of 1994. During Reinharz' tenure, the university has undergone some major capital upgrades including the creation of the Village Residence Hall, Abraham Shapiro Academic Center, and the Shapiro Campus Center.
