Jean Bourgain

Jean Bourgain (born February 28, 1954, Ostende, Belgium), is a professor of mathematics at the Institute for Advanced Study. He is noted as a prolific problem-solver. His work is in various areas of mathematical analysis such as the geometry of Banach spaces, harmonic analysis, analytic number theory, combinatorics, ergodic theory and partial differential equations. It has been recognised by a number of awards, most notably the Fields Medal in 1994.
