James W. Marshall

James Wilson Marshall was born in Lambertville, New Jersey on October 8,1810. John Sutter contracted with Marshall in August, 1847 to build a sawmill in the town of Coloma, California. Marshall's discovery of gold in Sutter's Mill began the California Gold Rush. He died on August 10, 1885 (Kelsey, California).
