Jakarta International School

Jakarta International School (JIS) is an independent school open to all expatriates in the Jakarta community. With the goal of educational growth for each learner, JIS aims to provide an outstanding educational opportunity for the children of Jakarta's expatriate community. Although the curriculum is based primarily on the North American model and courses are taught in the English language, the school reflects and is responsive to its international composition. There are two elementary campuses, Pondok Indah which serves students in Prep Reception (3 year olds), Prep Junior (four year olds) and Prep Senior (five year olds) through Grade 5; and Pattimura with students in Prep Senior through Grade 5; a Middle School consisting of Grades 6 through 8; and a High School with Grades 9 through 12. Each campus has its own administrator; In 2002-2003, the 274 faculty members and 2,500 students represented 56 nationalities. Secondary students may follow the regular diploma program, which includes extensive college preparatory courses, and/or earn an International Baccalaureate diploma, either of which can lead to admission to universities throughout the world.
