IringaIringa is a town in Tanzania with a population of 112,900 (as of 2004). It is situated at a latitude of 7.77S and longitude of 35.69E. It is also the name of the Iringa region and Iringa Urban and Iringa Rural districts. The name is derived from the Hehe word lilinga, meaning fort. The fortress and headquarters of Chief Mkwawa was situated in the nearby village of Kalenga during the 1890s.
