Interpol (Band) - This article is about the New York City-based indie rock band. For the International Criminal Police Organization, see International Criminal Police Organization - Interpol.
Interpol is a New York City indie rock band formed in 1998. Their debut album, entitled Turn on the Bright Lights, was highly successful. Band members include Paul Banks on vocals and guitar, Carlos Dengler on bass and keyboards, Sam Fogarino on drums, and Daniel Kessler on guitar and background vocals. The band formed when Daniel Kessler met with Greg Drudy, a drummer, on the New York University campus. Kessler later added Carlos Dengler, an ex-guitar player, on the bass, after meeting him in a history class. The line-up was complete after Kessler remembered an old friend he met whilst in Paris. After losing touch since Paris, Banks and Kessler ran into each other on the street. Banks then became lead singer. In 2000, Greg left the band. Kessler approached Fogarino who he knew while working for a record company and Fogarino was working at Beacon's Closet. The name "Interpol" may come from a past experience of Banks, when a schoolmate called him "Paul, Paul, Interpol." Other etymologies also exist, however. Other than the songs released on their full-length albums, they have composed songs such as "Specialist", "Song Seven", "Interlude", "Precipitate", and "5". Dengler is often referred to by fans as "Carlos D," and occasionally hosts after-show parties under the moniker "DJ Carlos D." Discography Albums Hit singles - from Turn on the Bright Lights
