International University Bremen

International University Bremen (IUB) is an independent research university in Bremen, Germany. IUB was founded in 1999 by the collaboration of the government of the city-state of Bremen, University of Bremen and Rice University of Houston, Texas. IUB is a private, English-speaking university in Germany, where the vast majority of universities are part of the free public education system. IUB cones American and European university systems to form a system with a transdisciplinary approach. IUB comprises three schools: As of October 2004 there are 808 matriculated students and 92 professors. The IUB campus was founded on the grounds of the Roland Barracks in Bremen-Grohn.

Trivia

On the official website you can read that students come from over 80 countries, which in fact is true, however, more than 50% come from Bulgaria, Romania and Germany. Despite this fact IUB is considered to be one of the most international universities in the world with around 70% of student body coming from outside Germany. The rigourous academic schedule is also a well known attribute. Students are required to take on average 7 or 8 courses per semester.
