Inn District

The Inn District (German Innviertel) is an Austrian region southeast of the Inn river, belonging to Upper Austria and bordering Bavaria. The Inn District belonged to Bavaria until 1778. In consequence of the War of the Bavarian Succession it was ceded to Austria. Towns in the Inn District include Schrding, Ried im Innkreis and Braunau am Inn. Braunau, located on the Inn river and the border to Bavaria, is the place where Adolf Hitler was born and spent his early years.
