IdlewildIdlewild are a Scottish rock band formed in December 1995, by Roddy Woomble (vocals), Rod Jones (guitar), Bob Fairfoull (bass), and Colin Newton (drums). In 2002 Bob Fairfoull left the band and was replaced by Gavin Fox; at the same time Allan Stewart (a session guitarist) joined the band as a regular member. Their sound, although it obeying the conventions of British guitar music in general, is unique in that, unlike many of their contempories, it has evolved over time, from the much edgier, more angular, occassionaly almost post-hardcore sound displayed on their early material, to the sweeping, melodic rock displayed on 'The Remote Part'. Idlewild can, therefore, be seen as a truly independent band, in that they do not fit into any specific scene, though their sound has clearly been influenced by bands like Fugazi, early Pixies and recent R.E.M.. Part of Idlewild's success can be attributed to their singles gaining heavy rotation on Steve Lamacq's Evening Session on BBC Radio 1, as well as his all-round endorsement of them- he often cites them as one of his favourite bands.
