Ian Clough (Mountaineer)Ian Clough (1939-1970) was a British mountaineer who died after the first ascent of the south face of the Himalayan mountain Annapurna. He had previously made many difficult ascents in the Alps, including the North Face of the Eiger and the Central Pillar of Frney on Mount Blanc. In 1970, he took part in the expedition to Annapurna led by Chris Bonington, but after the successful ascent of the south face he was killed by a falling ice-pillar on Annapurna's lower slopes.
