Hueytown, AlabamaHueytown is a city located in Jefferson County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 15,364. Geography Hueytown is located at 33°26'16" North, 86°59'51" West (33.437709, -86.997579). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 30.1 km² (11.6 mi²). 30.1 km² (11.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.17% water. It is considered a suburb of neraby Birmingham, Alabama, and is included in the market definition of Birmingham. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 15,364 people, 6,155 households, and 4,517 families residing in the city. The population density is 510.9/km² (1,323.7/mi²). There are 6,519 housing units at an average density of 216.8/km² (561.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 83.81% White, 15.49% Black or African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.08% from other races, and 0.34% from two or more races. 0.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 6,155 households out of which 29.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.8% are married couples living together, 12.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.6% are non-families. 23.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 2.92. In the city the population is spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 90.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.4 males. The median income for a household in the city is $41,225, and the median income for a family is $49,380. Males have a median income of $36,087 versus $26,025 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,735. 6.8% of the population and 5.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.2% of those under the age of 18 and 9.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
