Huang Gai

Huang Gai (黃蓋) was an officer of the Kingdom of Wu in China since the days of Sun Jian. At the Battle of Chi Bi, in 208, he initiated the plan known as "the last resort." The plan was that Wei, Wu, and Shu soldiers would see Zhou Yu beating Huang Gai, claiming that he was a traitor. In the midst of the chaos, Huang Gai would go to Cao Cao claiming he abandoned the kingdom of Wu and wanted to loyally serve the Kingdom of Wei. During the battle, Huang Gai initiated a fire attack, forcing Cao Cao to retreat and also resulting in a critical victory for both Wu and Shu. See also: Three Kingdoms.
